The elderly need to be active and not passive
“The elderly need to be active and not passive. Dancing Hands hand taps have the power to help people recall gleefulness and lightness, capturing the playful spirit that is still there, but hidden. Using hand taps is a way of connecting.”
This was a statement made by a resident advocate at one of twenty nursing homes that Dancing Hands visited over the 2007 summer months.
We used various types of creative activities with the hand taps and observed responses. Eyes brightened, activity increased, and there was social interaction. Afterwards, there were plenty of hugs and kisses for us, as we departed.
